Spotlight on Sharon Boardman, Science Department Chair

Mrs. Sharon Boardman, Science Department Chair and member of the Rice Faculty since 1993 recently spoke at the National Science Foundation / Vermont EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) Annual State Meeting last Thursday, March 11th at the Hilton Hotel in Burlington. The theme of this year’s conference was Water Systems and Land Use Interactions. Mrs. Boardman described Rice High School’s 2 year involvement with The Streams Project, which is funded by NSF and Vermont EPSCoR. This past year, Mrs. Boardman, senior Katie Rapoza, and junior Nathan Callas, have been studying water quality (E. coli, phosphorus, and suspended solids) and insects in the Munroe Brook watershed in Shelburne, and will be presenting their findings at an upcoming conference in April.

We commend Mrs. Boardman both for her dedication to the environment and recognize her achievements as noted by her invitation to speak at this conference!
